“Shikigami” – Japanese Kanji Symbols for Animating objects to act as the sorcerer’s agent

shikigamiI wrote ‘Shikigami’. It is animating objects to act as the sorcerer’s agent.

  1. ‘Shiki’ means Ceremony, Method or Form (in this case, ‘Shiki’ means ‘To use’)
  2. ‘Gami’ means God or Spirit

There are many Onmyoji (Japanese sorcerer) in Japanese Manga and animation. They use often ‘Shikigami’. Often it is the shape of a person made of paper. For example, Zeniba use ‘Shikigami’ in the movie ‘Spirited Away’.
