“Hatsuho” – Japanese Kanji Symbols for Firstfruits

hatsuhoI wrote “Hatsuho“. It means “Firstfruits” and “Offering to the gods” in English.

  1. “Hatsu” means First or New
  2. “Ho” means Ear, Head, Spike or Panicle

Hatsuho is the first ears of rice or crops or harvest of the season, and Japanese dedicated them to the gods in the past. Now, the money offered to Shrine is called “hatsuho-ryo” which was derived from this.
